COLLEGE STUDENTS GO TO "CAMP" WITH LIFESTYLE EXPERT ROBERT E BLACKMON
St. Lawrence College, Brockville Campus, hosted guest lecturer and lifestyle expert Robert E. Blackmon for an in-depth lesson on 'Camp' style and history. The lecture was part of a project between the Hairstyling and Visual and Creative Arts- Fine Arts programs in which students collaborate to gain 'real world' experience. This year's project was based on the Met Gala's 2019 'Camp' theme.
Blackmon's afternoon lecture included an exciting blend of media and real-world samples and activities. "High fashion impacts our everyday lives, whether that be hair styles, home fashion, clothing, or art trends. I could think of no one more qualified to speak to that than Robert", said Visual and Creative Arts- Fine Arts Coordinator Christina Chrysler. Students had an opportunity to put their new knowledge into practice using a variety of clothing, props and accessories provided by Robert to reinforce the concepts he presented. "Fashion is art. It's important for young creatives to be exposed to as many forms of expression as possible and to learn to recognise the impact and influence of events such as the Met Gala on the buying habits and trends of potential clients/customers", noted Chrysler, "Robert's passion for his industry helped to inspire students to learn more". Students will be applying information from this lecture in future work, including photo shoots with live models.
Robert delivered his guest lecture the day before returning to LA, where he is working on a variety of creative projects to be released over the next year. Organisations interested in booking Robert as a guest speaker are encouraged to contact him via his website:
